Designed exclusively for the iPhone, Ash is a classic turn-based RPG, featuring an all-new, intuitive touch-based interface, a massive, fully-realized world with lush visuals, and a wonderfully compelling story.

Ash tells the story of two mercenaries on the fringes of the Empire of Aghaus, a once-great kingdom now fallen into ruin after the death of its king five years prior. When a routine contract takes an unexpected turn, the two men are gradually embroiled in a conflict that consumes the entire continent—and brings to light the mercenaries’ mysterious pasts.

IGN: "With great writing, clean 16-bit art, and a swift-moving battle system, Ash succeeds."

Wired: "This traditional RPG offers a far deeper experience than most iPhone/iPad games."

Macworld Australia: "Ash is nothing short of remarkable."

SlideToPlay: "Ash has a stand-out story and lots of old-school charm."

TUAW: "Ash will hit you right in the nostalgia bone."

TouchArcade: "Ash delivers an experience that shouldnt be missed by RPG fans."

PlatformNation: "This is the best iPhone game I have played, and easily in the top 5 iPhone games available."

Gizmodo: "Considerable love has been put into this $5 portable tribute to classic gaming."

These are strange days for Aghaus. By order of the Magistrate, the Royal Guard is to assemble for deployment in two days’ time. It has been years since I last left the capital, and further still that I can remember such a command being issued! But what need is there for a Royal Guard, when no King sits upon the throne? Though my oath binds me to his service, the Magistrate is not my liege. He rules in the absence of a rightful heir.

My men await their orders; they too are uneasy. It is for their sake that I stay my tongue, and place my faith in the Almighty that my fears are unfounded.

Tomorrow, we make for the East.

– Captain Creval of the Royal Guard, in the 895th year of the Aghausian Empire

Pros and cons of Ash app for iPhone and iPad

Ash app good for

I dont know about you, but even though the game is great and the story awesome, Im really not convinced about the new "art style". I really preferred the previous illustrations, where the characters looked more adult, real, instead of a slick polished and younger (cheaper) version. Maybe it is because of the issues related to RPG maker that we can read here. An option to let us chose the style could be a good idea, but I guess it would double the size of the app. In the meantime, Im not updating to 2.0.
My favourite game this year. Looking forward for the next part!
well... its definitely good, but gets boring pretty quickly, graphics are good, gameplay is ok :)
IF I could ask for anything, it would be a quest log, and a map! :)
I downloaded this app yesterday & it was free, today its $4.99, I musta lucked out and got a promo! Anyway, I am really enjoying it a lot! Im not a big RPG player, in fact I find most too involved to both getting into. That being said, I grew up in my teen years on NES and SNES, and this game is an awesome little throwback that reminds me of that style exactly - simple unfolding adventure tale, simple graphics, little villages to explore, and battles along the way with straightforward controls. For free it gets 5 stars no question, at $4.99 Im being a little more conservative and giving it 4.
Very well done! Story/gameplay is engaging enough and picks up pretty quickly. Dialogue is well written as well. Could use a World Map, but pretty good otherwise! Recommended.

Some bad moments

I remember playing this game about a year ago and the enemies looked way better then they do now. I must say this new version is a big disappointment. The graphics seem to have degraded to allow a younger age range to play without being creeped out by the looks of the enemies but this is also a big turn off for the players who want the cool and clearly evil creatures to fight against, which was one of the main things I preferred this game over other RPGs for. I just defeated the snake monster in Celan and was really hoping for something to revamp my love for this game but it looked like a blob of green mush as opposed to the long scaled, coiled evil looking creature that I remember. The first boss in the mind was also a big disappointment. after I saw that the uncorrupted characters had changed in appearance I was hoping for an even better looking boss. Im not really sure I want to continue playing as its ruining my memory of the awesomeness of the game and if Ash2 is like this as well then Im definitely not buying it. The plot is the same so far which is a relief as well as the very "Ashy" music. 2 stars for dropping quality of gaming for quantity of customers. Even a "graphic" option would suffice to get a 5 star. The plot is absolutely brilliantly laid out but the graphics are a constant turn off.
This game has an amazing storyline sprinkled with great humor. Top notch mobile phone gaming. Just really bummed that part 2 is not available and my whole life will have a cliff hanger for ever. I will change my rating for a perfect one once part 2 is available again.
Relaxing RPG. Would be great if we have map and the game is very unbalanced.
I really loved this game right up until I ran into a show stopping, absolutely no way around it bug. Sadly that was well over a month ago. A customer left a post on the developers blog almost 2 weeks ago asking for an update, and theres been no response. So to sum up: theres a bug that completely halts play, and the developer is leaving their paying customers with no solution in sight.
this app is a great one however the stauton cave glich must go or else i cannot play it any more :( great story though
It is a lot of fun. Definitely reminds me of the old RPGs I grew up playing. But it can definitely do with fewer random encounters, a map, and a quest log to keep track of where to go. It also crAshes quite a bit but the game is good about recovering at the same place so you never have to redo too much after a crAsh.
